⏰My Time Management Tool
Increase your productivity with this technique
It is obvious that time is a great asset. Once lost can't be retrieved the same again. So it is crucial to manage your time and use it efficiently. Keeping this in mind, I wanted to find out how to use my time effectively so that I could accomplish more and after googling I came to know about Pomodoro Technique. If you are unaware then let me explain what this technique is: It is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 80s. This method basically breaks the time into small chunks of 25 minutes followed by a break of 5 minutes. Each interval is known as Pomodoro. The word Pomodoro came from a tomato-shaped timer that he used to track his time as a university student. The core process of this technique is divided into six small steps:
- Choose a task that you want to get accomplished.
- Set the timer to the length of 25 minutes.
- Work on the task without any distraction for this set time.
- When your set time is over, your Pomodoro is over too.
- Take a short break for 5 minutes.
- On the completion of four consecutive pomodoros take a longer break.
Here, longer break refers to the time length ranging from 10 to 20 minutes. Grab a cup of coffee, go for a short walk, meditate or do anything that refuels energy to your body during your long break. It’s a basic yet highly productive tool who wants to use their time in a great way.
Remember : The key to productivity is uninterrupted work.
Why should you use it?
- It encourages to focus on some important tasks for a short period hence increases productivity.
- Rather than thinking we have endless time, it makes us think we only have 25 minutes to get the task completed.
- We can keep track of the time invested in certain tasks.
- At the end of the day, you will have a feeling of accomplishment.
How to get started?
To keep track of my time I have been using these following apps:
TomatoTimer: This was the first online Pomodoro technique timer that I used when I came to know about this technique. It’s a neat and clean web app with a sleek interface. You can give it a try.
Pomofocus: It is another web app that I use nowadays on my PC. You can customize this according to your need.
Focus-To-Do: Lately, I prefer using this app on my phone. It is available for multiple platforms such as Android, iOS, Windows and even has a chrome extension.
